The 2023 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award took place on February 26. Usually the SAG has my favorite red carpet from the award season, and this year it was no different. I like that the ceremony is not as formal as the Golden Globes or the Oscars, or as casual as the Grammys. The nominees also seem to put more effort at looking their best creative selves for the night, maybe because this is the ceremony they are recognized by their peers.
Here are what I consider to be the best outfits of the night. In alphabetical order, of course.
Amanda Seyfried in Prada dress and Cartier jewelry
Amanda Seyfried wore a lime green A-line mini dress by Prada that featured a train. The bright color looks great against her skin, and the voluminous ponytail helps give it even more of a modern 60s aesthetic. She paired it with black strappy sandals and diamond and emerald earrings.
Aubrey Plaza in Michael Kors
Aubrey Plaza wore a sequined copper dress by Michael Kors that featured a big frontal slit and left almost her whole midriff exposed. She paired it with matching sandals and jewelry. This dress looks incredible on her, and so does the styling. If her hair wasn’t in these loose, old-hollywood-esque curls, the outfit wouldn’t have the same impact. One of my favorite looks from the night.
Cara Delevingne in Carolina Herrera jumpsuit and DeBeers jewelry
Cara Delevingne wore a black Carolina Herrera jumpsuit that featured a skirt over the pants and two flowers, one in the cleavage and the other on the waistband. This jumpsuit is very elegant, and the styling with the simple yet impactful design of the jewels, as well as the hair and makeup, only highlights that.
Cate Blanchett in Armani Prive
Cate Blanchett is always the definition of elegance, and in the SAG Awards it was any different. She wore a black lace and sequin Armani Prive dress. The cleavage and shoulders are covered by lace while the rest of the gown is covered in sequins. It is elegant, modern and an interesting piece. Besides, it is Armani. The fit is impeccable and there isn’t one sequin out of place.
Haley Lu Richardson in Carolina Herrera
Haley Lu Richardson wore a black sequined Carolina Herrera strapless gown that featured a gradient of pearl embroidery.
Jenna Ortega in Atelier Versace
Jenna Ortega wore a black strapless Atelier Versace dress.
Jenny Slate in Zuhair Murad
Jenny Slate wore a black off the shoulder Zuhair Murad dress that featured an embroidered bustier.
Jessica Chastain in Zuhair Murad and Gucci High Jewelry
Jessica Chastain wore a bright pink off the shoulder Zuhair Murad dress. The color looks great on her, and the matching lipstick, slick hairstyle, and the chandelier earrings make the perfect styling. The only thing I would change is the ring, I think it looks to clunky for the princess Barbie look.
Julia Garner in Gucci
Julia Garner wore a copper pleated Gucci gown that featured a crystal embroidered kind of top underneath.
Michelle Yeoh in Schiaparelli
Michelle Yeoh wore a black and gold Schiaparelli strapless column dress. The only thing I would change about this outfit are the earrings, something shorter would fit better with the busyness of the dress.
Zendaya in custom Valentino and Bulgari jewelry
Zendaya wore a custom light pink Valentino strapless dress with rose embroidery down the skirt. This dress is perfection, is what you would typically envision a Hollywood star to wear on the red carpet. And the styling, the jewels, the black nail polish… This is the winning lottery ticket.
