July has been quite a busy month for me. And as a result of that, I didn’t read as much as I wished (the expectations were high). I also started a bunch of new books that I’m either at the beginning or just finished. In the past couple of months, I developed the habit of reading multiple books at the same time. But what was the best this month (literature-wise) is that I loved the books I read.
- When Life Gives You Lululemons by Lauren Weisberger

I’m a proud fan of The Devil Wears Prada, and recently I read the book that inspired the movie for the first time. And on both we get almost any information about Emily’s personal life, which was kind of frustrating since she is an interesting character.
When Life Gives You Lululemons is the latest episode on the TDWP saga, and the only other book by Lauren Weisberger that I read. And I think this is the perfect sequence for my favorite movie. It happens years after the original story, Andy barely appears (and *spoiler alert* is still with her annoying boyfriend), and Miranda continues to be Miranda. So, it doesn’t ruin our feelings towards the original main character, but gives the spotlight to a former neglected supporting role and avoids rambling about what happened on the past decade.
As the amazing professional she is,
Emily became a successful celebrity image consultant and made such a mark that
Miranda remembers her name. Oh, and she got married and moved to Los Angeles.
But, after a little crisis due to her lack of expertise in the art of social media,
and her husbands long work trip to China, she ends um crashing a few days
weeks in her old friend’s, Miriam, spare room. And, in a mixture of boredom and
rage, she agrees to help her new friend, former supermodel Karolina Hartwell,
make her comeback after being wrongly arrested for a DUI and being left by her
senator husband.
Lauren Weisberger did a great job with the storyline and writing in this book. It made me laugh, feel rage towards some characters and, overall, I didn’t want to put it down. If you’re a fan of The Devil Wears Prada and is looking for a light read, I suggest you add When Life Gives You Lululemons to your reading list.
- We Should All be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche

We Should All be Feminists is and adaptation from the 2012 TEDTalk by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie with the same name. This is a very short book that you can easily read in an hour, and it talks about why and how the author became a feminist, and what it is feminism and why it is important.
I really like this book, and I kind of want to give one to every person I know. I truly think I should have read it before, but I’m glad I read it now. Oh, and if her words seem familiar to you, it is because it has already been quoted in Beyoncé’s song ***flawless and that iconic Dior t-shirt.
